L’obiettivo del progetto è di reintegrare la cisterna esistente nella vita sociale, introducendo nuove funzioni contemporanee ed un uso attivo – in opposizione ad una pura oggettivazione dei frammenti storici – garantendo la conservazione nel tempo.
Le particolari caratteristiche della Cisterna, la sua atmosfera, la poca luce all’interno delle sale la rende l’ambiente perfetto per accogliere un’esperienza artistica contemporanea di tipo immersivo. Installazioni artistiche che esposte nella Cisterna esistente offrono un’esperienza unica al visitatore, ridefinendo il modo di concepire e visitare la rovina. L’edificio è concepito come un intervento leggero, sia visivamente che strutturalmente, una membrana leggera che ricorda una grande vela è sospesa sopra la domus

International Competition for the Restoration of the Cisterna Delle Sette Sale in Rome.

Awarded 3rd place.

The objective of the project is to reintegrate the existing cistern into social life by introducing new contemporary functions and active use – in contrast to a mere objectification of historical fragments – while ensuring long-term preservation. The unique characteristics of the Cisterna, its atmosphere, and the low light inside the chambers make it the perfect environment to accommodate a contemporary immersive artistic experience. Art installations exhibited in the existing Cisterna offer a unique experience to visitors, redefining the way ruins are conceived and visited. The building is conceived as a light intervention, both visually and structurally, with a lightweight membrane resembling a large sail suspended above the domus. It is supported by a system of beams and cables that gently touch down on the landscape below.
